Has anyone seen the treadmill for dogs? If so, what do you think? I know we want to keep our pets as healthy as we try to be but how do you know when the dog is tired?

I think it might be beneficial for those who can't get out of the house to walk their dogs.

On another note, have you seen underwater horse treadmills?  Talk about advanced!

I think the treadmill for dogs is a very exciting concept - for lazy people. It's great that someone invented this product. I feel sorry for the pets of people who can't seem to find the time to walk their dogs. I just wish people would get off their lazy butts and spend the money on something a little more necessary.

I would think the percentage for misuse would be very high.  I think treadmills have their place but I would like to see them used responsibly by professional people with working dogs or for rehabilitation purposes.

I haven't seen the treadmill for dogs yet, but I'm looking for one.  I imagine it must be pretty expensive.

It's not a matter of being lazy; for me it's a matter of caring for the well-being of my pet.  I have an American Bulldog that used to belong to my son.  I love and care about this dog very much.  Currently I am his only caretaker.  I do walk him on a regular basis, but sometimes the weather is inclement and neither of us want to go outside.  A dog treadmill would be an ideal thing to put him on, when the weather is bad and while I am getting ready for work.  There have also been times when I didn't feel well and I wasn't up to walking him.  I have fallen twice while walking him because it's been icy outside.  If you know anything about bulldogs they are strong and muscular and need plenty of exercise.  Also, I had a knee injury that really incapacitated me.  I couldn't walk well and even now I still have problems with my knees.  I'm hopeful that my knee issues will be resolved in a matter of time, but in the meantime I want him to get exercise when I can't.  If I were able to successfully train him to walk on the treadmill, I would pace him and monitor him to make sure he's not being overworked.  When dogs get tired they pant, so that's what you watch out for.  I would get him used to the treadmill first, in a walking pattern for about 5 minutes.  Our regular walk is about 15-20 minutes long.  Then I could just let him go out in the back yard for fresh air.

Now what I think is terrible is seeing people ride their bikes while having their dogs tied to the bike and forcing them to run, while they're pedaling.  I hate to see that and I think that is animal abuse.  Same thing when I see dogs left in vehicles for any period of time -- especially when it's hot.  Those are the people I want to report to the humane society.
